Vitamin C - The Crucial Active Skincare Ingredient

Vitamin C is one of the most powerful antioxidants for the skin, to maintain a healthy body and healthy skin. It slows down the aging process, and prolonged topical use has been clinically proven to regenerate collagen and improve the appearance of wrinkles. Vitamin C also lightens pigmentation, brightens overall skin tone and protect us from the harmful UV rays.

Unfortunately, our body is unable to synthesize vitamin C found within glucose due to the lack of the specific enzyme. As a result, we rely heavily on dietary intake for our basic supply of vitamin C found mainly in citrus fruits and dark leafy greens.

Research has shown that we need an additional of 500mg of vitamin C daily in addition to consuming five servings of fruits and vegetables a day, in order to have positive visual results on our skin and health. Even so, ingested vitamin C is unable to supply an adequate amount of L-ascorbic acid to the skin. So, let’s get real.

With our hectic schedules, it is not feasible to consume that many servings a day. Even supplements are quickly depleted in our systems with our busy lifestyles. So we need to incorporate as much vitamin C into our lives as possible!

Our Vitamin C Skincare Products

Our topical vitamin C products are firstly absorbed by the skin almost instantaneously upon application, and will start reaping the beneficial qualities the very moment it is applied. This is due to the fact that these vitamin C products were specially formulated. It acts as a preventative treatment, with the ultimate goal of protecting the skin from further environmental damage.

When Vitamin C is delivered in high concentration through the stratum corneum into the skin, the anti-oxidants’ protective reservoir will then be increased, followed by the enhancement of photo protection, skin cell repair and collagen synthesis.

Our skin is dependent on antioxidants for protection against environmental assaults such as ultraviolet (UV) rays, cigarette smoke and pollutants that cause free radicals and photo-aging of the skin. Free radicals damage DNA, proteins and lipids, causing skin cells to die off. Since the skin receives the most direct and intense free-radical assault from UV light exposure, replenishing and increasing the antioxidant defense of the skin becomes an essential strategy for photo protection and photo repair.

Studies have shown that, when applied to the skin, L-ascorbic acid stimulates collagen synthesis, provides sun protection and protects the skin by reducing free radicals that would otherwise destroy skin cells and their components. Topical vitamin C has also been proven to improve skin texture and tone, reduce brown spots, decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and preventing their formation.

Vitamin C is vital for the production of collagen - a major structural protein of the skin. Although skin-deep changes would take place for approximately two to six months, you will start noticing small visible differences in skin texture, color and tone as early as a few days.
